SCOTCH HILL TRUFFLE FARM

THE MOMENT OUR TREES-TO-TRUFFLES JOURNEY BEGAN

LANDLINE 2014

ABC’s Landline filmed us at Blerick Tree Farm in 2014—capturing the moment that sparked our journey from trees to truffles, and the beginning of the Scotch Hill story.

From Ornamental Trees to Truffle Dreams: revisiting our 2014 Landline Feature.......

In 2014, long before Scotch Hill Truffle Farm existed, Ron and I were running Blerick Tree Farm — our advanced ornamental tree business in Neerim South. It was a time when our days were spent grafting, digging, pruning and preparing thousands of trees for landscapes across Victoria and, eventually, China. That year, ABC’s iconic rural affairs program Landline arrived on the farm to film our story. At the time, it felt like a milestone in our agricultural journey; we had no idea it would one day become the first chapter in our path from trees to truffles.

ABC Landline is one of Australia’s most trusted voices in rural storytelling, showcasing the people, businesses and innovations that shape regional life. Being featured was both an honour and an insight into how our work connected to a broader agricultural landscape. Looking back now from Scotch Hill — with our 1,300 oak trees, truffle dogs, and a new chapter in West Gippsland agritourism — the 2014 interview captures a moment where everything we would become was quietly taking root.

From Filming Location to Truffle Farm:
How the Landline Story Lives On

Set on the same rolling hills where our tree-growing chapter unfolded, Scotch Hill Truffle Farm now brings new life to the very spaces captured in our 2014 Landline story. The shed featured in the episode — once home to forklifts, root balls and winter digging — has transformed into the base for our Truffle & Flames experience, where guests gather before stepping into the orchard. The paddocks behind it, where Landline filmed Ron digging trees for export, are now the heart of our truffle hunts. Even the China connection comes full circle; the years we spent navigating international trade now support Scotch Hill’s emerging role in supplying premium truffles to export markets. What began as a story about trees has grown into a truffière shaped by those same foundations — precision, patience, soil science and a deep respect for place.
